Local Teacher Challenges Claims He Told Student: Nation Does Not Need Another Black President
FAIRFIELD, Ohio (WKRC) -- A local teacher challenges allegations he told an African American student who said he wanted to become President that the nation doesn't need another black President.
Gil Voigt says he requested a hearing to defend himself. Fairfield Freshman School suspended Voigt without pay, which a school administrator says is the first step in the termination process.
Voigt told school leaders he was misquoted. He says he commented that the country couldn't afford another President like Barack Obama but that skin color had nothing to do with his observation.
School leaders say a hearing date will be set before a labor mediation referee.
