National tributes to Martin Luther King, Jr.

WASHINGTON, D.C. (WKRC) -- Tributes for late civil rights leader Martin Luther King, Jr. are being held across the nation Monday.

Among them, a wreath was laid at his memorial in Washington, D.C. Doctor King was born on January 15th, 1929, so he would have turned 85 this month.

People are encouraged to do community service on MLK Day, which is the third Monday in January. That's exactly what the president and first lady plan to do in Washington.

The federal holiday is the only federal holiday dedicated as a day of service.
