Tax Issue on May Ballot: Developmental Disabilities Levy

HAMILTON COUNTY, Ohio (WKRC) -- A tax levy to help the developmentally disabled will be on the Hamilton County ballot in May.

County Commissioners okay-ed putting the levy before the voters.  More than half a dozen people Wednesday told commissioners how important the services are for people with physical, emotional, or mental challenges.

One woman, who brought a stuffed animal for support, said she and her sister had a terrible time in another county but Hamilton County was a blessing.

"My twin could not be here.  She suffers from PTSD from the other county.  She is in therapy every week and is slowly getting better thanks to the trust and care of Hamilton County.  I'm grateful for the help I receive and know I will have assistance to live life to the fullest.  Health and safety first.  Thank you Hamilton County for seeing my possibility instead of my disability."

The proposed levy is the same millage as the current one and so it is not a tax increase.  It would cost the owner of a 100,000 dollar house about $118 dollars a year.
