Crews Battle House Fire in Icy Conditions

SILVER GROVE, Ky. (Tiffany Wilson) -- Crews in Silver Grove, Kentucky worked through difficult conditions to contain a four alarm house fire Friday morning.

Route 8 was completely shut down for several hours due to the fire.  When firefighters arrived at the scene nobody was inside the home but there was one woman who had been trapped.  She was assisted off the roof by neighbors.

Since then crews have been trying to put out the fire.  They believe it started in the basement and spread up through the walls into the two stories of the home.

Over the years the home has been expanded through additions.  Those additions complicated fighting the fire along with the extreme cold.

Chief Greg Buckler of the Campbell County Fire District One said, "Due to the cold temperatures there is a lot of logistics involved in keeping the guys in and out.  We do have rehab set up.  When they come in they get checked out before they go back in.  Again, due to the cold temperatures they can't work that long.  We had to call in extra personnel to accommodate that."

At this point it is thought the house is a complete loss.
