Defense claims mother was out of it before attempted drowning of baby

WALNUT HILLS, Ohio (Deb Dixon) -- The fiance of the woman charged with trying to kill her baby told a judge he knows what happened was just a terrible accident.

27-year-old  Jessica Whitehead's attorney appeared for her at the bond hearing on an attempted murder charge.  She was found with her infant daughter submerged in the bathtub of her Walnut Street home early December 31st.

Police say they believe she was trying to kill her baby, and possibly herself.
What happened the day before will likely be part of this case. Jessica Whitehead walked into the casino in a daze. Eyewitnesses say she was out of it, possibly hallucinating, and police there called her family clergy.

Jessica Whitehead ended up back home, and the next morning her fiance woke up to find his 7-week-old daughter unresponsive in the bathtub with Jessica.
Even though mental problems appear to be in play here, police say they still have to file charges. Postpartum psychosis is already something that's being talked about, but that's up to her defense attorney to bring up.
Jessica's fiance and the baby's father  told the judge the baby is,  "Doing great, that's a blessing."
