Soldier from Ft. Wright killed in Afghanistan
FT. WRIGHT, Ky. (Liz Bonis) -- A soldier from Ft. Wright was killed while serving in Afghanistan.
The family of Sgt. Daniel Tyler Lee says they were notified of his death at 5 a.m. Wednesday morning. Sergeant Fist Class Timothy Kees from Fort Knox greeted the family Wednesday afternoon.
His mother, Frances Lee, says Sgt. Lee served with Army Special Forces. He graduated from Dixie Heights High School in 2003.
"He was very quiet about what he did, as he was trained to be."
Because of that special forces status, the family doesn't know much about the circumstances surrounding his death right now.
"We know that it happened around six in the morning their time, and he was shot in the chest."
They also know that his quiet strength went far beyond the battle field.
Sergeant Daniel Tyler Lee's sister, Janie Lee Hahn, said, "He was my protector, and he was my best friend, and he is going to be missed."
Sgt. Lee leaves behind a wife and 6-month-old son, Daniel Roderick Lee, known as Rock.
Funeral services are expected at both Dover Air Force Base and in Fort Wright. The family did tell us they will share details as soon as those services are schedules.
