Courtroom brawl after guilty plea in murder case

CINCINNATI (WKRC) -- A guilty plea in a murder case ends in a brawl in a Hamilton County courtroom today.

Trial was scheduled to begin for Leonard Lanier Monday for the murder of Strawberry Edwards in February of 2013. The 21-year-old was found shot to death in a home on Dutch Colony Drive. Instead, Lanier pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of involuntary manslaughter, felonious assault, tampering with evidence and a gun charge. The judge then sentenced Lanier to 28 years in prison.

The victim's brother was upset with the sentence. He and Lanier's brother started to fight. Several deputies rushed to break up the brawl. Two of them suffered minor injuries.

They were immediately brought before the judge on contempt of court charges. The judge sentenced Lucien Lanier to 30 days in jail. Jason Edwards got five days in jail. Both will be charged with assault on a police officer.
