New Miami ordered to turn off traffic cameras

NEW MIAMI, Ohio (Larry Davis) -- A Butler County judge granted an injunction stopping New Miami from using its speed cameras. Judge Michael Sage ordered them turned off immediately.

New Miami collected one-million dollars from 10,000 tickets from the cameras. Some who received the tickets sued, claiming they were funneled into an "unconstitutional, illegitimate" process.

The drivers also complained that they couldn't fight the accuracy of the cameras. New Miami argued the cameras were self-calibrated, however the plaintiffs said they couldn't challenge that.

Tuesday's ruling comes on the heels of a Hamilton County judge's ruling shutting down Elmwood Place's traffic cameras. Judge Sage says his decision was not influenced by that ruling.
