Road crews pretreating streets for winter weather

CINCINNATI (Josh Knight) -- Road crews throughout the tri-state are planning for a busy weekend and many have already begun their attack.

Cincinnati highway workers are pre-treating secondary roads with brine.  What that helps with is it is actually taking less salt to do ideally the same amount of work.  It can be just as effective but a little bit more cost effective because they use less salt to cover more roadways.

Crews started on Wednesday to try to get ahead of this storm and stretch the amount of salt that they do have.  Larry Whitaker from the City of Cincinnati Public Services says they are down to about 2,700 tons of salt.  Reinforcements are coming at the beginning of next week as crews try to make it through the weekend weather.

Because of the winter weather and non-stop storms it has been tough to keep replenishing salt supplies.  So by using the brine and by starting early crews are able to get out ahead of the storm.
