24-year-old horse shot five times
MASON COUNTY, Ky. (Angenette Levy) -- The pasture on Kentucky-596 is where Gypsy Rose, the horse, was found shot to death.
The Mason County Sheriff says Gypsy Rose was shot five times with a high-powered rifle. Brandi Courtney-Mauricio believes someone shot Gypsy Rose sometime Saturday afternoon between three and six.
She saw her 24-year-old Tennessee Walker in the field Saturday before she left the house. Brandi says she heard gunshots that morning and afternoon but she didn't think anything of it because it's not unusual to hear gunshots in this area. People target shoot and hunt.
Her husband found Gypsy Rose laying dead in the field Sunday morning.
Brandi said, "Of course I cried my eyes out. I cried like a baby, you know. And I thought who in the world would be this sick to shoot a horse five times? An innocent horse standing there in her own field eating hay? That's exactly what I thought."
This is sad and scary for Brandi and her neighbors because someone out there is shooting an innocent animal. What makes it sadder is the fact that Gypsy Rose was in good shape for a 24-year-old horse and likely had several more years to live.
Deputies are actively working this case. If you have any information about who shot and killed Gypsy Rose the Mason County Police Department wants to hear from you. The number to call is 606-564- 3309.
