Clifton Natural Foods Moving to Gaslight District
CINCINNATI (Brad Underwood) -- The Gaslight District in Clifton will soon be getting a grocery store back on Ludlow Avenue. Clifton Natural Foods plans to move into the space located at 336 Ludlow and be open for business on May 1, 2014. The Clifton grocery store has been owned and operated by Bob Craig and his wife for 30 years, 20 of those at the current location at McMillian Street and West Clifton Avenue. While the location has been accessible and successful, the buildings owners have sold it and it will be demolished, forcing Craig to re-locate.
"We started looking for a place a year ago, it was a little discouraging, we really couldn't find a place that was right for us. And then we found a place down on Ludlow avenue," said Craig.
You can do just about anything when it comes to natural food, vitamins and household products and all of that will move with the store.
"They're always so friendly and helpful and I can always find odd organic things that you can't find at Kroger or other places, says Alice Skoke, a loyal shopper. It has a lot of variety and quality.
Moving into the new space at 336 Ludlow is a perfect fit for the neighborhood that lost the Kellers IGA in 2011 when the owners closed the doors due to tax issues. The building was purchased by a local business who promised a re-opening. However, that still hasnt happened.
Since then there hasnt been an option for fresh grocery products nearby.
"It's just going to be a perfect fit for what we are doing," said Craig.
Christina Sunshine Celesti has worked for the store for five years and cant imagine working at another shop.
Ive worked in big box stores in the natural realm and theres a lot of faade going on, and this is the truth behind it, said Celesti.
The new location is a bit smaller, but only about a mile away from the current store.
