Suspect runs from police, climbs roof to escape

CINCINNATI (Angela Ingram) --Police had to shut down several streets and call the fire department Tuesday afternoon to get a suspect down off of a roof.

Officer say the suspect, Giavanni Penman, ran away from a traffic stop around 1p.m.  When the officer caught up to the man, he'd climbed onto the roof of a building on Colerain Avenue.  The man was wanted on three open felony warrants and now faces even more charges.

Officer Tammy Hussels said, "The passenger, stepped out of the vehicle, showed me his hands, and then when he turned from me he went and grabbed his right side.  It appeared that he was grabbing the handle, the butt of a gun."

Penman took off running and disappeared.  Plain clothed officers in the area helped to track the suspect down on the street.  They found him on the roof of a building on Colerain Ave.

The suspect paced back and forth while police waited below with guns drawn.  Penman talked on his cellphone and even asked police for a light so he could smoke.

When he refused to come down officers used a ladder from the fire department to get him down.  In addition to running they say Penman had marijuana on him.

The driver of the car that was involved in the traffic stop only had a minor traffic violation.  Another passenger who was in the vehicle was brought to the jail because he had outstanding warrants relating to failure to pay child support.
