Police officer pleads guilty to embezzlement

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WKRC) -- A former Columbus Police officer pleads guilty to charges in connection to a program previously overseen by Cincinnati Police Chief Jeffrey Blackwell.
Steven Dean pleaded guilty Wednesday to embezzlement and theft of public property. He admitted to scrapping and selling military equipment worth more than a quarter of a million dollars. It was through a defense department surplus program.

Jeffrey Blackwell is the former Columbus Deputy Chief. He was in charge of the program.

We asked him about the investigation when he was introduced as Cincinnati's new police chief in September. "I believe I supervised a couple of those people in the course of my duties of supervising approximately 3 or 4 hundred people so, no I'm not concerned about that."
Steven Dean's wife has told our sister station in Columbus her husband is being made a scapegoat. Federal prosecutors say the investigation is not over.
