Mayor Cranley may drop one part of parking plan

CINCINNATI (WKRC) -- Cincinnati mayor John Cranley says one portion of his recent parking plan may be dropped.

The proposal calls for longer hours and higher rates in certain parts of town, including requiring meter payments until nine p.m. near the University of Cincinnati.

Cranley told reporters this morning that he met recently with UC President Santa Ono, who said students are concerned over the extended hours. "I'm certainly supportive in responding to the president and the student body president, and I think it makes sense to pull back from that piece of the package near the university. That will be a decision for city council but i'm already hearing from city council that that's the likely direction anyway"

Whatever happens, the center piece of the plan will not change which is the city retaining ownership of the meters and most garages instead of privatizing them.
