Independence soldier killed serving in Afghanistan

INDEPENDENCE, Ky. (WKRC) -- A soldier from Independence has been killed while serving in Afghanistan.

The Department of Defense says 27-year-old Specialist Christopher A. Landis and his dismounted patrol was hit by a rocket propelled grenade in Kapisa Province. He was brought back to Bagram Airfield, where he died from his injuries on Monday.

Spc. Landis was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 3rd Special Forces Group (Airborne), Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Local 12 is working to learn more about him.
