Bars, police gear up for Green Beer Day

OXFORD, Ohio (Perry Schaible) -- The bars in Oxford are open early Thursday for Green Beer Day. It's an annual tradition that serves as an alternative to Saint Patrick's Day for Miami University students.

Green Beer Day is the Thursday before spring break. Bars open and start serving alcohol at 5:30 a.m. Bar owners and managers are ready for the event. They have distributors on standby in case they run out of beer. Sales will continue throughout the day.

Oxford police plan for Green Beer Day to try to keep students safe. They bring in extra personnel to be on patrol.

Green Beer Day is not a Miami University sanctioned event. Officials say students are expected to attend class.
