Navy christens Neil Armstrong class of ships Saturday

ANACORTES, Wash. (WKRC) -- The first person to set foot on the moon will be honored on the water Saturday.

The Navy will christen the first of a new class of ships Saturday in Washington State.

The Neil Armstrong-class will be ocean-going research vessels.

The 238 foot ships carry on-board labs and come with equipment that can map the deepest parts of the oceans.

Armstrong was a naval aviator before he became an astronaut.

He died at his home in Indian Hill in August 2012.
