No charges filed against police officer who hit pedestrian

CINCINNATI (WKRC) -- The city of Cincinnati prosecutor's office decided Saturday that no charges will filed against a police officer who hit a pedestrian in November.

Officer Orlando Smith's cruiser hit Natalie Cole on Vine Street in Over-the-Rhine on November 9 when Smith was responding to a request for help from another officer.

Smith had his lights and sirens on, and Cole was not in a crosswalk.

Investigators say Cole also had high levels of cocaine and morphine in her system.

Cole's family has filed a lawsuit claiming Smith was negligent when he drove 70 in a 25  mile-per-hour zone.
