Debate over bill to allow guns on school parking lots

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (WKRC) -- A bill to allow guns in school parking lots in Indiana is getting national attention.

An opponent testified against the bill Monday.  Shannon Watts is the found of a group called, "Moms Demand Action For Gun Sense in America."  She says having a law which allows licensed gun owners to keep their weapons  in a glove compartment or a trunk does not make schools safer.

It does the opposite.

"The lesson that should have been learned from the Sandy Hook Elementary shooting in Newtown, Connecticut in 2012 is that easy and unregulated access to guns must be limited not encouraged.  Yet these amendments would do the exact opposite," Watts said.

Members of the conference committee considering the gun bill recessed without reaching a consensus.
