Construction concerns Reds fans for Opening Day

CINCINNATI (Adam Clements) -- Orange barrels and construction equipment are nothing new in the downtown area, but work that's currently being done near Great American Ball Park has many people worried it'll cause major issues on Opening Day.

People who've driven above Ft. Washington Way have likely noticed a whole lot of construction and congestion.

On Third Street, on the north side of Ft. Washington Way, streetcar construction is underway. Crews plan to curb that work for Opening Day.

On the south side of Ft. Washington Way, on Second Street, crews are widening the sidewalks, removing pavers and fixing drainage issues. They're trying to kill two birds with one stone to make foot traffic better for Opening Day. "We work very closely, between the city and the county, very closely with the Reds. As far as access to pedestrian parking and we try to anticipate based on our track record, concerns, and address them appropriately says Phil Beck, executive director of The Banks.

Beck does say Main Street to Walnut Street on Second will be completed for Opening Day.

The entire sidewalk widening project is expected to be completed sometime this summer.
