Mitch McConnell meets with officials to discuss growing heroin problem in Kentucky

FLORENCE, Ky. (WKRC) -- Mitch McConnell visited Northern Kentucky to listen to others talk about the exploding problem of heroin abuse.

McConnell met with police, prosecutors, doctors and recovering addicts at the Northern Kentucky Development District in Florence. His purpose was to listen to their stories and learn about what resources are needed to battle what he calls a scourge in the commonwealth.

In one year, Northern Kentucky's heroin overdose deaths doubled from 33 to 66 in 2012.

McConnell says he'll take what he heard today back to Washington D.C. to the highest levels in our federal government.
