Couple dies after morning house fire in Wyoming, Ohio

WYOMING, OHIO (WKRC) -- 87-year-old Hank Drescher and his wife Janet, 82, died in a house fire early Sunday morning.

Crews were called to Hidden Valley Lane, off Compton Road, a little before 4 a.m.

Hamilton County dispatchers say the fire had escalated to three-alarms with multiple fire departments on the scene. Crews arrived to find flames shooting from the roof.

Assistant chief Matt Flagler says they had to get aggressive and fight the fire with hoses from the inside in order to search for the victims in the home.

Firefighters did what they could to save the Dreschers after the two were found in a first floor bedroom. Two firefighters were evaluated on scene for medical issues.

The Dreschers were taken to separate hospital where they were pronounced dead.

The cause of the fire is still unknown.

Hank was a retired Cincinnati Police homicide detective. Neighbors said he always had an eye on the neighborhood and made sure everyone was safe.

The house was being boarded up Sunday afternoon as several family members were there to gather Hank and Janet's belongings.

Funeral arrangements for the Dreschers have not been announced yet.
