Elementary student stabbed with crochet needle

DAYTON, Ohio (WKEF) -- A fifth-grader was injured Thursday morning after he was reportedly stabbed by a crochet needle at Cleveland Elementary School on the city's east side.

A 12-year-old child was removed from school by police and the injured child was transported to a local hospital. A Dayton Public Schools officials told us that child was treated and released from the hospital.

According to a school official who called 911, the injured student had been stabbed in his back and couldn't move his arms or back at the time.

Police and Dayton school officials are investigating this incident. Those investigations will determine how the school district responds.

School officials say a letter about the incident will go home with students Thursday.
