One dead in Middletown house fire

MIDDLETOWN, Ohio (WKRC) -- A fire at a Middletown home Thursday is fatal.

Both firefighters and crime scene investigators were at the home on El Camino Drive.  The fire started around 11a.m. Thursday morning.  Neighbors say two men tried to get into the home to rescue the person, but the flames and smoke were too much.  A couple of fire vehicles on a nearby medical run went to the scene as quick as they could once the 911 call went in but they were not able to reach the person inside the house.

Deputy Chief Paul Lolli said, "The situation when we first arrived showed heavy flames coming from three sides of the building.  And probably about five minutes into that we had heavy flames coming from all four sides of the residence.  We had two hose lines inside trying to extinguish the fire.  When we saw we weren't getting ahead of the fire and there was starting to be some partial collapses we went to an exterior attack and put several large stream hose lines on the fire."

Deputy Chief Lolli said it took 45 minutes to extinguish the flames.  Neighbors and witnesses said the fire started small but got worse and worse very quickly.
The victim's name has not been released.  Neighbors say the victim was a woman who lived in the home with a male who was not there at the time of the fire.

Firefighters are investigating the cause of the fire.
