Death of the dictionary?
CINCINNATI (WKRC) -- The Oxford English Dictionary has long been a standard in most schools, colleges and homes.
But that may be changing. Future generations may not get to see those entries on paper. Publishers say smaller dictionaries will always be available. However, the next complete edition will be so big and so expensive it may only be released online.
The first edition put came out 130 years ago. The massive, 20-volume second edition was published in 1989.
More than 70 "dictionary detectives" are working on new words for the third edition. Editors say publication of the new complete edition is at least a decade away.
