Teachers required to endorse Catholic doctrine

CINCINNATI (Jeff Hirsh) -- Fix the contract.
That's the demand of about 100 demonstrators who walked from Fountain Square to the offices of the Archdiocese of Cincinnati Tuesday afternoon.  They claim the new teachers' contracts unfairly clamp down on free expression and could force teachers to leave.

Leaders in Archdiocese were tied up in a conference Tuesday and not able to go on camera.  But they say the new contract is similar to previous ones only it contains more specific language on some issues.

A statement from the Archdiocese says, "It is always good when people show an interest in Catholic education and those who toil to educate our children.  The petitions will be studied by the Archdiocesan leadership and if action is deemed appropriate, it will be forthcoming."
