U.S. 52 closed due to sinking road

BROOKVILLE, Ind. (WKRC) -- U.S. 52 in Brookville is closed because the road is sinking. The pavement has dropped up to five inches at spots along the highway between Brookville and Cedar Grove.

The guardrail is now lower than the surface of the road in some areas and there is a concern the road will slide down the hill.

Crews will shore up the hill and then determine how to fix the road. The detour is very long and runs from I-74 to Greensburg, then go north to Rushville, then back to Brookville on U.S. 52. That's an 82 mile journey for a trip that would normally be 15 miles from I-74 to Brookville.

U.S. 52 is expected to be closed for several weeks.
