Health Alert: Railroad Crossings
CINCINNATI (Liz Bonis) -- A national campaign to keep all of us safe in and around railroad tracks kicks off Tuesday.
You would think it would be obvious: see a track, think of a train. But apparently we don't do that! We stopped out in Erlanger Tuesday to tell you more about this report.
Researchers with the Federal Railroad Administration say the number of people hurt or killed in at a railroad crossing has gone up about one and a half percent. That means it's about 1,200 in total last year. They say another 900 were killed or injured walking on or near railroad tracks. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration also found that three out of four of these train crashes are within 25 miles of your home; half of those are within five miles.
They remind all of us trains always have the right of way and to always be careful around tracks when you are driving.
