Doctors office treats addicts near school
DEER PARK, Ohio (Joe Webb) -- A doctor's office that treats addicts has some people in a local community concerned; not because of what they do but because of where it is, right across the street from a grade school.
Prime Health Group has operated right across Galbraith Road from Amity Elementary unnoticed for a month or so. But last night, the medical practice became a hot topic on social media.
Mike Berens, Deer Park Safety-Service Director, said, "Her practice specializes in addictions and she primarily focuses on opiate addictions."
Calls to the outraged people who complained online were not returned. Prime Health Group treats addicts. It is not a methadone clinic. Prescriptions are written but filled at a pharmacy. There are no drugs on site.
After talking with the city, they decided to keep office hours when school is out. They start at 4 o'clock in the afternoon and go through the evening hours. Saturday 9-2 and some hours on Sunday as well.
Deer Park police say they've had no problems with Prime Health Group. Doctors suspected there would be concerns and met with police in advance of opening. They agreed to have a Deer Park Police Officer on site during office hours.
After the buzz online, Deer Park Police posted information on their Facebook page. They are prepared to deal with any issues but haven't seen any so far. Neither has the city. They are watching closely, knowing whatever happens, is happening across the street from a school.
The city of Deer Park says Prime Health Group meets all the zoning requirements to operate at that location.
