Survey finds majority of Americans support Obamacare birth control coverage
UNDATED (WKRC) -- According to a survey from the University of Michigan Health System, 69 percent of American adults support the Obamacare provision that says employers need to offer birth control coverage in their health plans.
The findings were reported in the Journal of the American Medical Association.
Lead author of the study, Dr. Michelle Moniz, says that the support of the mandate comes from people who would more directly benefit from affordable birth control. Women, African- Americans and Hispanics were more supportive than men and older people with no children living at home.
The Obama Administration has strongly defended the contraceptive coverage, saying that it puts women in control of their health care.
The Supreme Court is expected to rule in June on whether businesses can opt out of coverage on religious terms.
