Kenton County standoff ends

RYLAND, Ky. (WKRC) -- A man is in police custody Thursday morning after a six hour standoff with Kenton County police.

Jerry Lee Mardis allegedly burglarized his father's home on Locust Pike on Wednesday. Police say Mardis fired a gunshot from his trailer when officers tried to ask him about the burglar.

Police say Mardis refused to speak to hem. The SWAT team arrived at the scene at 5:30 Wednesday night. Mardis held the offices at bay for six hours, but officers eventually got him out of the trailer.

Mardis was taken to the hospital and treated for minor injuries.

He is charged with wanton endangerment and faces up to five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

Mardis had also just been released from the Kenton County Detention Center Tuesday for disorderly conduct and public intoxication.
