Ky. fans gather for UK-UConn title game
LEXINGTON, Ky. (Joe Webb) -- The Kentucky Wildcats are hoping to bring home the school's ninth championship. They play the University of Connecticut's Huskies Monday night for the title.
With Lexington just 100 miles away, Kentucky's fan base is strong in the tri-state. Everyone knows UK fans are loyal, vocal and prone to wear blue, but they don't just wear blue, they live it.
If baseball is the national pastime, in Kentucky, UK basketball is the state pastime. They love their cats, and this year has given them a lot to love.
At the Kentucky shop in Florence, owner Jim Ransdell has seen the excitement before, but not like this.
"This season, though were excited about it, never really lived up to the hype. Then all of a sudden with the win over Wichita State, it's just opened up the box and everyone's gone crazy," he says.
Ransdell has sold every Sweet 16, Elite 8 and Final 4 shirt that came through the door. He reloaded with NCAA Finals t-shirts Monday and place orders for tomorrow.
Everywhere you went in Kentucky Monday you could see blue. By midday, fans were already making plans on where to watch the game.
At Dickmann's Kentucky Sports Cafe, the doors opened at 2 p.m. and people were already in place saving seats.
UK has kept fans on the edge of their seats in every game. They've beaten teams from 2013's Final Four.
