Health Alert: Diet cheaters keep weight off better

CINCINNATI (Liz Bonis) -- A new study says cheating on your diet might be the best way to keep weight off.

We all know it's not about losing the weight, it's also about keeping it off. But this study found there's a couple things we all do that sabotage our own weight loss.

Dr. Randy Seeley has just completed a new study on weight loss.

Researchers in the journal Appetite found if you like sweets or other foods you consider forbidden, you should not give these up or feel guilty about eating them.

Those that do who feel sorry about eating a forbidden food gained nearly seven times more weight over an 18 month period. They say those that do end up feeling like they have blown the diet and start eating more.

What's suggested is that you actually include these forbidden foods as part of weight loss. Those who are diet cheaters appear to lose more weight than those who try to be perfect along the way.
