Police: Man flees in car, bitten by dog

COLERAIN TOWNSHIP, Ohio (Angenette Levy) -- A man driving his girlfriend's Lexus led police on a chase down Colerain Ave. Wednesday in rush hour traffic.

The chase started when Alonzo White refused to stop for police after he hit a car near Cross County Highway, according to Colerain Twp. Police. White and the driver of the other vehicle pulled in to the Wedge Inn to exchange information. But, White took off and refused to stop.

"The officer that was dispatched actually witnessed the vehicle coming southbound on Colerain Ave. So as soon as he saw the car he turned around and tried to follow the vehicle. And tried to get them to stop. We'll they decided they weren't going to stop," said Sgt. Jennifer Sharp.

White pulled down a side street and drove through back yards and the yard of an elementary school on Banning Rd. White then hit three more vehicles at the intersection of Banning Rd. and Colerain Ave., Sgt. Sharp said. He then hit a pole and another vehicle and bailed from the car and ran into Darryl Rogers yard. His bull terrier, Milo, slowed White's attempt to outrun police.

"She was on him. He was hollering and screaming but she was on him and I came around through the garage and he had jumped the fence and I guess crossed the street to my neighbors," Rogers said.

White got away from Milo and ran across the street. Greg Ernst and another neighbor saw White running through yards on Robers Ave. as police moved in and cornered him.

"It was an exciting afternoon," Ernst said of the police chasing White: "Up the street, down the street, helicopter overhead, they had him."

Remarkably, no one was hurt during the rush hour chase.

"For him to strike as many cars as he did and to keep on going, that's fairly unusual for something like that to happen out here," Sgt. Sharp said.

White had warrants out for his arrest on theft cases when police tried to stop him. He is now facing a charge of failing to follow an officer's order.
