CHP officer rescues abandoned chihuahua from freeway

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. (WKRC) -- A tiny dog is lucky to be alive after being dumped on a busy California highway.

The chihuahua puppy was found by a police officer right on the median wall between the lanes, in the middle of rush hour traffic. Investigators determined there is no way the tiny dog got there by himself.

The officer says he pulled over his car, and used a protein bar to get the chihuahua to come towards him. The dog wasn't hurt, and the officer took the dog he named "Freeway" to a nearby animal shelter.

Since this happened, there's already been several offers to adopt the dog.
