Three drug suspects arrested in West End
CINCINNATI (Angela Ingram) -- Three drug suspects were under arrest Friday after a SWAT team busts them in a West End apartment.
Only Local 12 cameras were there as it all unfolded. So far in May there have been seven shootings in the West End and the problem with that is that is a higher number than normal for that area. Police say Friday night they were looking for several suspects, and they found them.
Police arrested on suspect on Linn St. near Findlay for drug trafficking. Moments before two brothers, Dashawn and Dayvon Cook, were also cuffed. The SWAT team surrounded a building on Findlay near Baymiller. Investigators say they have evidence that suspects were selling drugs inside the building.
Capt. Mike John of the Cincinnati Police Department said, "Built a case to do this search warrant here. We're very pleased with how it went, it was successful, nobody was harmed. Our targets were inside the location."
Police say a recent spike in shootings in the West End is directly related to the drug trafficking. Officers are using multiple approaches to drive the number of shootings back down and to make it safer for neighbors.
Police say earlier in May one of the suspects, Dayvon Cook, was a victim of a shooting himself. But when investigators went to talk to him he was less than forthcoming with information to help police identify his shooter. Cook was so uncooperative that it raised police suspicions about his activities. Shortly after, police found out he was involved in drug trafficking.
