Judge dismisses lawsuit from atheists challenging tax exemptions for religious groups

FRANKFORT, Ky. (WKRC) -- A federal judge in Kentucky dismisses a lawsuit brought by an atheist group, challenging IRS tax exemptions for churches and religious groups.

District judge, William O. Bertelsman ruled the group was speculating about being potentially injured by the tax code or treated differently from other organizations because it never sought to be classified as a religious organization.

The group claims tax-exempt status for religious groups is discriminatory, and they do plan to appeal.
