Former teacher who molested teenage girl released from prison
DELHI TOWNSHIP (Angenette Levy) -- A former religion teacher who served four years in prison for having sex with a teenage girl who lived in his home was released from prison Thursday.
Salvatore "Sam" Magro and his wife took in the girl while her mother was having surgery. They promised to take care of her and provide a nurturing environment. A short time later, Magro was having sex with the teen.
"It just tears a mother's heart out to know that you trust someone that much and this could happen," the victim's mother told Local 12 News.
In 2010, the woman discovered Magro was having sex with her 14-year-old daughter. The sexual assaults by Magro left the now 19-year-old woman scarred for life.
"A battle. Ups, downs. She has flashbacks, nightmares. She has trouble, she's now 19. She has trouble with relationships, trusting someone," the mother said. Local 12 News is not identifying the woman or her daughter.
Since his conviction, Magro's wife has divorced him. But losing his wife and going to prison hasn't stopped Magro from contacting her. Last year when she turned 18, he sent a letter to her from the Chillicothe Correctional Institution.
"We should be living our future journey together, not being heartbroken and separated," Magro wrote.
The letter, and other attempts by Magro to contact her, prompted the victim to request a temporary protection order in a menacing by stalking case. A magistrate granted the protection order which prohibits Magro from contacting her for five years.
"My concerns are he will try to contact her again. I know that for a fact. Whether it be the computer, a phone, he's a very intelligent man. He will get a hold of her somehow," her mother said.
Following his conviction, Magro admitted to having sex with the girl hundreds of times and even videotaping some of the encounters. He took her to the Primavista restaurant where they exchanged wedding vows. The victim has been getting help and is trying to move on with her life. Her mother hopes Magro gets help for the sake of her daughter and other girls.
"I hope he goes and gets help. Just because he was locked up for four years he didn't get the professional help that he needed so he doesn't do this to someone else."
Magro is required to register as a sex offender. He will be living in Butler County.
The victim has a civil suit pending against Magro. It is scheduled for trial in 2015.
