Family organizes fundraiser to help son with aphasia

MASON, Ohio (WKRC) -- Tri-state golfers hit the links to support the family of a local man who was stabbed when he tried to protect his sister.

In May 2011, O'Keefe was stabbed in the head 19 times as he tried to protect his sister, Kelly, from being attacked by her ex-boyfriend.

O'Keefe has aphasia which limits his ability to speak and write.

The family of Danny O'Keefe organized a golf outing Saturday at the Golf Center at King's Island.

Danny returned this month from the University of Michigan Aphasia program which was paid for by a fundraiser last year.

Money from today's event will go to three extra speech lessons per week for Danny at the University of Cincinnati over the summer.

O'Keefe's family should know how successful the fundraiser was sometime later in the week.
