Coffee fungus could raise prices

UNDATED (WKRC) -- A plant disease in Latin America may increase the price of your morning cup of coffee.

Coffee rust is a highly contagious fungus that affects different coffee varieties. Researchers predict unless it's brought under control soon, coffee rust will stall production in the affected areas by as much as 40 percent in the coming years.

Large U.S. coffee companies like Starbucks and Keurig Green Mountain are beefing up supplies to avoid raising prices.

Today, the U.S. government will announce a five million dollar partnership with Texas A&M University's World Research Center.
