Flying Pig weekend kicks off downtown

CINCINNATI (WKRC) -- It's the Flying Pig weekend!

The marathon is Sunday, but there are a lot of activities downtown Saturday to celebrate including the Mascot Race, Flying Piglet Kids' Fun Run, the Diaper Dash at Yeatman's Cove and the Flying Fur Dog Run.

About 36,000 runners from 19 countries and five continents are converging on downtown Cincinnati for the 16th annual marathon.

Beginning at 1 a.m., dozens of city streets will close for the race. Elm Street between Fifth and Sixth Street are already closed. The main event kicks off around 6:30 a.m. The course will reopen to traffic as the runners clear the area.

Security for the marathon will be high. No bags of any kind will be allowed. Bomb-sniffing dogs will also be along the route.

Organizers encourage carpooling, but parking will be available in the lots around Paul Brown Stadium.
