Hamilton drug treatment center adding beds

HAMILTON, Ohio (Larry Davis) -- A Butler local drug rehab agency adds space to treat more patients.
It's a victory for advocates who say too many addicts don't get the help they need because treatment centers turn them away.  The waiting list for Drug Addiction Treatment of Butler County is now a little shorter.  Sojourner Recovery Services opened a new treatment center in Hamilton this week with 12 new beds, and that means a lot in the ongoing war on heroin.

Even though drug agents continue to arrest dealers and users and confiscate gram after gram of heroin, the cheap, highly addictive drug is taking its tole.  Overdoses are adding up but those who want help end up at the Sojourner Recovery Services.  89 percent of the clients they treat have a heroin or opium addiction.  That is a 15 percent increase from this time last year.

SoJourner's CEO and President says the number of beds available has doubled with the new additions to 24, giving more addicts a fighting chance.  With the 12 extra beds the facility's waiting list has been cut in half.

Sojourner plans on expanding by adding more satellite recovery centers in Middletown, Oxford and West Chester Township.
