KSP refuses Boone Co SO request to investigate deadly shooting

BOONE COUNTY, Ky. (WKRC) -- The Kentucky State Police have denied the request of the Boone County Sheriff's Office to investigate the deadly shooting involving a Boone County Sheriff's deputy last weekend.
Earlier today, Sheriff Helmig asked the Kentucky State Police to investigate Saturday's incident on River Road.

KSP Commissioner Rodney Brewer  cited the state police's policy and current protocol as reasons for rejecting the request, but did offer to "provide any support for your investigation including but not limited to use of our LEICA forensic scanner, expediting lab requests and any other technical or investigative assistance you need."
Deputy Tyler Brockman says 19-year-old Samantha Ramsey sped up her vehicle after he ordered her to stop as he checked out reports of a yard party.

Brockman fired four shots, killing the Covington woman. Passengers in Ramsey's car said Brockman jumped onto the hood.
Sheriff Helmig says the department owes it to Ramsey's family and Deputy Brockman to avoid any appearance of impropriety in the investigation.
