72 veterans head to D.C. on Honor Flight

HEBRON, Ky. (Perry Schaible) -- Seventy-two local veterans boarded a flight headed for Washington, D.C. For many, it's the first time they'll see a memorial honoring a war in which they served.

In addition to the 72 veterans, there will be 72 guardians on the flight. Family members or volunteers travel with the veterans.

The flight to D.C. is one and a half hours. Then the veterans will board buses to head to their memorial.

Mary Ford served in the Korean War.  "I'll probably cry, I usually do get very emotional, but I'm very excited, it's a big thrill for me." She just celebrated her 80th birthday.

The trip ends with a welcome home rally at the airport at 10 p.m.
