Catholic school teacher quits, refuses to sign new contract

CINCINNATI (WKRC) -- A veteran Catholic school teacher whose son is gay is quitting in protest of a controversial new contract specifying violations of church doctrine.

Molly Shumate works in the Archdiocese of Cincinnati. She's the first known teacher among 2,200 to refuse to sign the new contract.

In April, nearly 100 demonstrators delivered a petition to the Archdiocese demanding language changes in the contract.

They claimed the contract unfairly suppresses free expression.

Violations of the contract include public support of "homosexual lifestyles, abortion and artificial insemination."
