Man kills childrens stepfather then himself
COVINGTON, Ky. (Larry Davis) -- Covington Police release the names of those involved in a murder-suicide at the Dairy Queen.
The violence seemed to center on a custody dispute. Police say Zuriel Turk arrived to the designated location to pick up his children on Decoursey Sunday evening. Instead, he shot and killed the children's stepfather, Mark Kroening. Turk then turned the gun on himself.
Monday a small cross stands underneath a tree at the edge of the Dairy Queen parking lot. Officials say Turk wrote a rambling blog about the pain of not being with his children about a week before the shooting incident. In the blog he refers to his children as having been kidnapped. Throughout the blog the words "kidnapped" and "kidnappers" are used numerous times. Turk tells his children they were kidnapped from him ten years ago and there is an effort to keep them away from him.
Covington's Police Chief says Zuriel Turk was never on their radar and they had no warning as what was going to happen.
Chief Spike Jones told Local 12's Larry Davis, "We ran background checks on both individuals to see if there was any indicators. But nothing that would have alerted us to be able to intercede prior to this occurring."
Turk went on to write the only way to kidnap his children absolutely is to silent their father's voice absolutely.
All four children, ages 10 to 15, witnessed the shooting. Neighbors reported hearing eight or nine "pops" which they first thought were fireworks.
