Health Alert: Stop the urge to snack

CINCINNATI (Liz Bonis) -- A favorite food of summer could help you resist your afternoon trip to the snack machine.

If you quite often notice the afternoon slump is getting you to the vending machine, you might want to add avocado to your lunch.  Or at least half of one according to this new report.  Local 12's Liz Bonis stopped out at Bethesda North Hospital to tell you more about it with TriHealth.

This study is in the Nutrition Journal and researchers found those who pig out tend to do this at between three and four  in the afternoon.  So in this study researchers had people add half an avocado at lunch and they were satisfied up to five hours.  They also reported a decrease in appetite by up to 40 percent.
 
Now you can get them anyway you want: in guacamole, in salads, or as the whole avocado; however you wish.  Avocados have good fats which may help with keeping you satisfied but do not add too many calories to help you gain weight.
