Baby crying contest in Japan
HIROSHIMA, Japan (WKRC) -- Hundreds gather for a baby crying contest in Japan.
The event takes place each year on Children's Day. About 800 babies ages 6 to 18 months take part. People believe the loud cry of a baby will ward off evil spirits and bring healthy growth.
Babies are dressed in traditional festival coats and headbands. Two babies sit face-to-face and a referee shouts at them to make them cry.
The baby who cries first is the winner.
Some babies burst into tears before their bout begins. A few remain blissfully unaware.
