Health Alert: Got Milk?
CINCINNATI (Liz Bonis) -- Got milk? A new study said it may be really good for a woman's knees.
Researchers in the study found drinking milk slows down the progression of one of the most common causes of knee pain, osteoarthritis. Scientists studied more than 2,100 people who already had knee pain from the condition. After four years, women who reported drinking one to three glasses of milk a week had a 33 percent lower risk of osteoarthritis progressing. That compared to those who didn't drink any milk. Get a glass a day and it dropped forty four percent.
The results of the study was all based on x-rays of knee cartilage. The same results were not true for men. Also, eating cheese appeared to make the progression speed up rather than slow down while yogurt had no effect.
