Man arrested again for sex with pool raft
HAMILTON, Ohio (Brad Underwood) -- A Hamilton man, who had previous arrests for taking part in sex acts with inflatable rafts, was in trouble again Wednesday.
Police charged Edwin Tobergta when someone saw him performing simulated sex acts with a pink raft on Route Four. He was charged with public indecency and contempt of court when he failed to show up in court on previous charges. Tobergta has had eight previous arrests.
"Our officers have come in contact with him for similar circumstances, way too much," said Hamilton Police Sgt. Ed Buns. "He was arrested in 2005, 2006, twice in 2008, 2011, once 2013; I think that constitutes a pattern."
Last November, a judge sentenced him to 11 months in jail for a similar sex act. That time a mother and her eight-year-old daughter witnessed it. Multiple times Tobergta has been charged and convicted of having sex with inflatable rafts; multiple times he went to jail.
Dr. Stuart Bassman was a psychologist who works to treat people who suffer from numerous mental disorders and illnesses including sexual disorders. Dr. Bassman said people who repeatedly commit acts like those Tobergta committed suffer from a form of paraphilia. By Definition, paraphilia is the experience of intense sexual arousal from atypical objects, situations or individuals. In this case, that object was an inflatable raft. Dr. Bassman believed the best way to stop these actions was treatment instead of jail time.
"The most effective way of helping someone like this is through treatment, getting them care. Because in a sense, paraphilia is a mental disorder which requires medication or a combination of group therapy," said Dr. Bassman.
Tobergta will face a judge again on June 18th and is being held on a $35,000 bond.
